Makati, Philippines, 24th February 2022 – Metro Pacific Investments Foundation Inc. (MPIF), the corporate social responsibility arm of leading infrastructure conglomerate Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC), strengthens its Puhunang Pangkabuhayan program for alternative livelihood through a beneficiary partnership with the organizers of the 1st Philippine Cycling Festival.

In partnership with Neo Zigma Cycle Corporation and Interval Gear Events Management (IGEM), MPIF will receive part of the proceeds for its Puhunang Pangkabuhayan program. 20% of the generated cash sponsorship, registration fees, and ticket fees for the expo will go towards purchasing bikes to be donated to beneficiaries selected by MPIF. The Foundation continue its support for out-of-work individuals and income-generating people’s organizations by providing tools for sustainable alternative livelihood.

“Our programs to aid our countrymen amid our current situation have transcended from humanitarian missions to prioritize recovery, rehabilitation, and resurgence,” says MPIF President Melody del Rosario. “Through our Puhunang Pangkabuhayan program, we aim to invest in small businesses and kickstart local economies – a feat that we will continue to achieve through this partnership with IGEM and Neo Zigma.”

As of June last year, Puhunang Pangkabuhayan has been able to provide over 110 alternative livelihood tools such as bicycles, sewing & edging machines, pocket Wi-Fi units, and load retailer kits to areas in Batangas, Oriental Mindoro, Surigao del Norte, and Pangasinan.

Purpose Powered by Cycling

Cycling has been a go-to fitness activity that has yielded benefits not only for physical health, but also for the environment. Since the pandemic, there was a noticeable influx of business ventures involving bicycles, primarily in food delivery and logistics. Beyond enthusiasts, the cycling community now houses more small-scale entrepreneurs.

To further emphasize the value of cycling, Neo Zigma, the exclusive distributor of SHIMANO in the Philippines and sports event organizing company IGEM are organizing the 1st Philippine Cycling Festival and Adventure Expo to be held on June 3-5, 2022 at the Clark Parade Grounds. The event is intended to promote cycling through race events, cycling education talks, merchandising exhibit, with kid-friendly and family-friendly activities. The Expo aims to gather the biggest local and international brands relevant to the sport, with the end goal of raising funds to donate bicycles to several communities in the country.

With MPIF’s existing programs aligned with environment protection, reduction of carbon footprint, and alternative livelihood generation, Neo Zigma and IGEM selected the Foundation to be the sole beneficiary of the event.

“We created this event and forged this partnership to further emphasize the value that cycling entails, aside from being a sport or fitness activity,” says IGEM Managing Director Christian Alacar. “We wanted to give more purpose to pedaling and use cycling as a tool to help benefit those who have stopped moving because of the pandemic.”

With the theme ‘Love every ride, grow with it’, the Philippine Cycling Festival is intended to bolster the positive cycling culture in the country, while also becoming a ground for all participants to invest in meaningful programs through MPIF.

“Moving forward, we want the Philippine Cycling Festival to be a catalyst of progress to the Philippine cycling culture and to expand our reach to achieve a deeper connection to the words ‘Love every ride, grow with it’,” said Neo Zigma Marketing Head Josephine Santos. “Together with MPIF, we can also give back to our local communities by donating to livelihood programs and environmental efforts across the country.”

The partnership with Neo Zigma and IGEM towards Puhunang Pangkabuhayan is aligned with Gabay Kabuhayan, one of the MVP Group’s Gabay Advocacies for a Sustainable Philippines. It is also in line MPIC’s efforts to contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), particularly 1 No Poverty and 17 Partnerships for the Goals.
